I was looking for something else completely unrelated when I came across this: The Splintered Mind by Douglas Cootey. His brain chemistry affliction veers off in a different direction than mine (Depression --> ADHD as opposed to Depression --> Suicidal Ideation) but the advice still applies (see Ten Things To Do To Fight Off Depression as an excellent example) and his posts are well written, fascinating glances into a unique mind.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to subscribe to the feed...

I have experienced suicidal ideation at many points in my life. The worst of which was soon after I became disabled. However, I survived. Suicidal ideation was a symptom of my Depression. I attacked the Depression and the self-destructive thoughts for the most part went away. When I experience them now during bouts of intense Depression, I push them aside for the tricks of the mind that they are.
I wish you success in your struggles. And I look forward to further comments by you on my blog.

It would be nice if I could rely on the power of mind to push depression aside...and I have tried it in the past. But I've learned the hard way that I need chemical support to keep the depression at bay.
Glad you got my post. Look forward to reading your blog.
